Arla Foods will build a state-of-the-art commercial dairy farm within the damau Household milk farm. The farm will serve as a demonstration farm to teach farmers agricultural technologies regarding milk production. the 400-hectare farm, scheduled to open in 2022, will have housing for 400 dairy cows, modern milking parlors, grasslands and living facilities for 25 employees. The facilities and expertise provided by Arla will ensure a first-class opportunity to train local dairy farmers to improve milk yields and quality, animal welfare and farm profitability, contributing to the country’s aims to develop local milk production.

In addition to providing training and support, the farm will also showcase long-term commercial farming in Nigeria. Over time, the farm is expected to produce over 10 tons of milk per day which will be processed by Arla’s dairy plant in Kaduna State, to supply locally produced dairy products to Nigerian consumers.

The Arla farm will consist of various temperature-controlled housing units for the cattle (cows, heifers, and calves), residential accommodation for farm personnel, feed mills, feed storage facilities, irrigation systems, milking parlors, treatment and artificial insemination areas, manure systems & storage and other farm complementary facilities. The farm will also have a production capacity of 50L/day/cow.

This is a state of the art farm that will be using new approach on animal welfare with cow cooling systems, automatic lights, rotating brushes for fur cleaning and more could be named. Truly marking new era for dairy farming in Nigeria
